Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Statement

At All Saints Primary School, we believe that every child should be able to learn in a safe and supportive environment that allows them to realise their potential. We provide a wide range of interventions and different support to ensure that this can happen. We recognise that every child is a unique individual and it is our responsibility to ensure that every child is helped and encouraged to achieve to the best of their ability.

If you have any questions or queries about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at any point during your child’s time at our school, please speak to your child’s class teacher. They will discuss any concerns with Mrs Reading. The teacher and Mrs Reading are responsible for ensuring that your child is able to achieve to the best of their abilities.

SWANS (Students with Additional Needs)
 
Within All Saints, we are very lucky to have developed our own internal provision which focusses on children with speech and language and cognition and learning needs. Our classroom has a large, outdoor are also and is where our 2 beautiful bunnies, Moon and Star, live. 
The provision runs 4 mornings a week and is led by Mrs Reading, our SENDCo, and an experienced member of the learning support team, Mrs Atkins.  All of the children return to their classrooms each afternoon to access the curriculum sessions with their peers.
The children within Swans attend sensory circuits each morning and then complete handwriting, phonics, english and maths activities, carefully adapted to their learning levels.  We use a range of interventions such as word aware, language for thinking, finger gym and social communication to support the children with their social and learning skills.
On a Thursday, the children visit the nature area and have great fun exploring the outdoors and completing activities which are linked to their learning from the week. 
We have also been lucky enough to attend sporting events led by the Schools Sports Partnership, such as Boccia and represent our school.

ADHD
We provide a range of support for pupils with ADHD which includes tangles to aid concentration or wobble cushions.  
We also have supported parents with an 'All about ADHD' session for parents and carers.

    Hi, I am Mrs Reading and I am the school SENDCo.
    I have worked for many years as a teacher and have achieved my SEND qualification. I am passionate about supporting children with special educational needs.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

To support children at All Saints, all classrooms have visual timetables, clear routines and resources to help all children thrive.  All staff are trained periodically by an autism specialist ensuring that all children can let their light shine.

Our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) works with ASD children to help them manage their emotions, self-regulate and build relationships with others.

We work closely with the Autism Outreach team, who support children within school to thrive.  The team give advice to members of staff, observe children and give recommendations to ensure that autistic children are having their needs met within school. 

Makaton Sign Language
We teach all the children Makaton signs and symbols to support communication.  If you would like to further develop your child's learning at home, the Makaton website is a useful starting point.
 
Makaton sign of the week
Each Monday we have a new sign which we demonstrate and teach to all staff and children.  The sign of the week is introduced to the children on a Monday during Collective Worship and then used throughout the week by all staff members.  The display within school allows children to recognise the new sign and others which we have previously learnt.
Within phonics, all of the phonemes which the children learn, are accompanied by a makaton sign and symbol, supporting the children's learning and understanding. 

Speech and Language
We are committed to supporting all children with their communication needs through high quality teaching and learning. For those children who require additional support we employ our own speech and language therapist who works directly with children, teachers and parents. We also work closely with the Leicestershire County Council Speech and Language team and where appropriate work with other external partners.
Experienced members of the learning support team, working alongside the SENDCO, run interventions focusing on learning new vocabulary, building sentences and answering questions.  If you have any queries around speech and language please contact Mrs Reading via the school office. 
 
Mental Health Support Team
The Leicestershire Mental Health Support Team are part of our provision to support children with low level mental health needs. Referrals are made by the school with consent from parents.
In addition we have access to OSI. OSI is an Online Support and Intervention to help children overcome problems with fears, worries and anxiety.
