Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Statement

At All Saints Primary School, we believe that every child should be able to learn in a safe and supportive environment that allows them to realise their potential. We provide a wide range of interventions and different support to ensure that this can happen. We recognise that every child is a unique individual and it is our responsibility to ensure that every child is helped and encouraged to achieve to the best of their ability.

If you have any questions or queries about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at any point during your child’s time at our school, please speak to your child’s class teacher. They will discuss any concerns with Mr Ferwerda and Mrs Reading, who are responsible for ensuring that your child is able to achieve to the best of their abilities.

ASD

To support children at All Saints, all classrooms have visual timetables, clear routines and resources to help all children thrive.  All staff are trained periodically by an autism specialist ensuring that all children can let their light shine.

Our ELSA works with ASD children to help them manage their emotions, self-regulate and build relationships with others.

We work closely with the Autism Outreach team, who support children and their families, both in and out of school, and give recommendations on an individual basis. Parents are also invited to attend sessions run by the outreach team.

Makaton Sign Language
We teach all the children some Makaton signs and symbols to support communication.  If you would like to further develop your child's learning at home, the Makaton website is a useful starting point.

Supporting Deaf Children
We use soundfield amplification systems in some of our classrooms to support our children with hearing impairments, this ensures all children hear well wherever they are seated in a classroom and whichever direction the teacher faces. We liaise with the teacher of the deaf to ensure the best possible provision. We are also working in partnership with UK Deaf Sport to ensure all our children have the best possible access to sport and physical activity.

Speech and Language
We are committed to supporting all children with better communication through high quality teaching and learning. For those children who require additional support we employ our own speech and language therapist who works directly with children and teachers. We also work closely with Leicestershire County Council Speech and Language team and where appropriate work with other external partners.
